IN MEMORY OF EMMA JOHNSON CONNER Emma Johnson-Conner was born in Shaw Mississippi on May 21, 1931. Emma was a faithful wife and share cropped with her husband Eddie Conner Sr. during her early years in Shelby, Mississippi. She was married over 30 years and the mother of six (6) beautiful children. Emma was passionate and a hard worker who always took care of her family and gave back to the community. Her home was the local spot where families came for food, medical assistance, celebration and other community services. Emma moved to Chicago in 1966 where she continued her mission of helping families, persons with disabilities cleaning, cooking gourmet meals such as greens, hot water corn bread, sweet potatoes pie, cakes, lemon pie and other soul food dishes. Emma passion was nursing the sick and elderly. She always had words of encouragement and comfort to share. She demonstrated this passion through her church services as a dedicated usher, church mother and food pantry worker for the community. Emma valued education but she was unable to finish high school because her mother passed and her sibling needed her. She spent many years taking care of her siblings and continue after her marriage to Eddie Conner Sr.
