AOGRC, an approved vocational school by the Illinois Board of Higher Education, provides job training and placement services. AOGRC has been approved by Workforce Development as a veteran training site and Department of Human Services/Division of Rehabilitation Services (DHS/DRS) as a training site for person with disabilities. AOGRC, birthed out of the home of Ex. Officer Annie Smith in 2007, later expanded to its first main office, consisting of two part-time employees and a few volunteers. In 2009, AOGRC moved to Riverdale IL. and to date, has since relocated its main office to 10824 S. Halsted in Chicago. Currently, AOGRC's staff has grown to 30 full time and part-time employees with a long list of faithful volunteers. AOGRC partners with many volunteers through National Able, National Caucus, SNAP, CCRC and CURES Programs. Some of AOGRC's greatest supporters are 34th ward Alderman, Carrie M. Austin and Senator Emil Jones, III.
AOGRC participated in many community events, such as Women Against Violence and Mentoring and Grant Writing Assistance. In 2010 the agency implemented a Violence Prevention Program for students through the Illinois Department of Violence Prevention Authority. AOGRC also served as a fiscal agent for Better Life for Youth, providing mentorship, training and tutoring for over youth ages 6 to 17.
AOGRC's Executive Officer, Annie Smith, designed and developed the automotive & insurance job training and placement program in collaboration with ASE. This program has been in existence for over ten years and continues to thrive. Three of the program's participants started their own automotive service program, placing over 200 individuals in jobs from FY2013-FY2016. Two of our clients created homemaker services for seniors and one client added their own transportation company. Twenty participants were military affiliated. The automotive and insurance service components composed of assessment, curriculum and practice training, can provide service for up to 50 persons. The programs also serve veterans, persons with disabilities, and small business owners. AOGRC currently collaborates with Illinois' Small Business Development Corporation (SBDC) at Far South, Greater Southwest Development Corp. and Veterans Education & Training Section (VETS). S&E Towing Automotive Services and David's Automotive (two of AOGRC'S partners) have been in operation for over 12 years, providing hands-on automotive training for clients to become ASE Certified technicians.
AOGRC's automotive training program (Training Observation Practice Program T.O.P.) and its financial services program (FSP) are both approved by the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE) and are also WIOA approved.
